Creating a story in Vertex gives users the ability to collaborate on 3D models by streamlining the model review process using a cloud-based solution. When a Vertex Story is created and shared, all collaborators have instant access to the story from their computer, tablet, or phone. A story consists of snapshots that highlight areas in a model that need to be reviewed. Each snapshot includes collaborative information, such as descriptions and comments. If allowed by the story creator, collaborators can also export the geometry that’s visible in each snapshot. Collaborators can review a story and add their own comments and file attachments. This drastically reduces the amount of time it takes to identify and respond to problems in a model.
An important feature of a story is that it can be shared with collaborators who don’t yet have a Vertex account. When a story is shared with a non-Vertex user, they are given complimentary 2D access to Vertex in the form of a Starter User account. Starter Users have limited functionality in Vertex, but they have all of the features they need to collaborate effectively on a story. Stories can only be created by Plus Users (those with 3D access to Vertex). For more information about what functionality is available to Starter Users or Plus Users, see What can collaborators do in a story?
If you are a Starter User (2D functionality only), use the Guide for 2D Story Collaborators instead of the articles in this section. The articles in this section are for Plus Users: those who have full, 3D functionality.
